Frequently Asked Questions
What forms of identification are acceptable for a notarization?
At the time of the notarization appointment, a government-issued photo ID will be required of all signers as proof of identity. A driver's license, state-issued photo ID card, passport, or permanent resident card are acceptable forms of identification. If you have any questions regarding your proof of identity, please ask prior to your appointment.
My ID is expired. Can I still use it?
No. You must present a current, valid form of identification. Expired driver's licenses, passports, etc. will not be accepted.
One of the signers is unavailable. Can they just sign the document ahead of time?
No. All signers must be physically present at the time of signing and must sign in the presence of the notary.
The document is missing some information. Can you still notarize it?
No. Incomplete documents will not be notarized.
I don't know if my document needs an acknowledgment or a jurat. Can the notary help me decide?
A notary will be able to show you samples of the different types of notarizations. You are responsible for determining what your document requires. Notaries are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice. If you don't know what is required for your document, you can contact the person or agency requiring the notarization, or seek advice from a licensed attorney.
Can the notarization be done remotely?
At this time, Georgia does not permit remote notarization by commissioned Notaries Public.
